Young children


Monday

Doctrine: Jesus Christ wants me to follow Him


Song: Come, Follow Me

  • Place paper footprints in a circle, with a picture underneath each footprint showing a way to follow Jesus. While the song plays, have the children walk around the footprints. When the music stops, the children freeze and look at the picture under the nearest footprint.

Scripture story

Memorize: “Come, follow me” (Jesus says, “Come, Follow Me”)

  • Outline the words to trace

  • Have children point out familiar letters

  • Play Simon Says but use the words “Come, follow me” instead. If you include the whole phrase they follow your action. If you leave out “come” they don’t follow your action. Then discuss Luke 18:22 as stated in the manual. (from cknscratch)

  • Look through pictures of Jesus helping others. Trace footprints and write/draw what you can do to follow Jesus

  • Keep the footprints for using each time you sing Come, Follow Me

  • Toss bean bags onto paper fish with “What Would Jesus Do” questions on the back. Have the other parent occasionally interrupt the game by holding a picture of Christ and saying to follow Him (child should leave activity and run to the picture)

  • Make toilet paper roll binoculars for a scavenger hunt to look for pictures of the Savior around the house


Thursday

Doctrine: The scriptures teach me about Jesus Christ


Song: Seek the Lord Early

  • Play hide and seek. Every time you hide, secretly bring a new page from the flip chart with you for them to discover when they find you. Then have the children try to arrange all the pages in the correct order while listening to the song

  • Act out the Fishers of Men story. Make a simple fishing net with string to catch the paper fish from Wednesday's activity. Use a laundry basket as a boat.

  • Treasure hunt for picture of Christ: Hide a picture of the Savior, and give the children clues to help them find it. Select a few short scripture phrases and write them on the back of the clue cards. After they find each clue/scripture, discuss what the scripture means and why it is such a treasure. Sing “Seek the Lord Early” while they are searching. Optional: DIY scratch off clues with dish soap and acrylic paint

  • Show them how you like to mark your treasured scriptures. Share some of your treasured scriptures with them and help them practice marking in their own scriptures

  • Glue a treasure chest onto a manila envelope to keep this year's treasured/memorized scriptures

  • Cut this into an easy jigsaw puzzle: Scripture Treasures

  • Hide a small picture of the Savior in the scriptures, then race to find Him

  • Catch goldfish with pretzels dipped in cream cheese


Friday

Doctrine: The scriptures help me gain a testimony

  • Bring a gift-wrapped copy of the scriptures, let a child open it, and testify that the scriptures are a gift to us from Heavenly Father (from the Come, Follow Me: Primary manual)

  • Show the children some books containing fictional stories, and ask them about their favorite stories. Show them the scriptures, and testify that the scriptures contain the word of God for us and tell of people who really lived and events that really happened (from the Come, Follow Me: Primary manual)

  • Make oil lamps out of clay or paper while discussing the Parable of the Ten Virgins. Draw small pictures of how you will follow Jesus or gain a testimony, then drop the pictures into the lamp. Show pictures of people following the Savior in different ways, during His mortal ministry and in our day.

  • Plant jelly bean “seeds” in chocolate cookie/pudding “dirt” cups while discussing the Parable of the Sower


Saturday

Doctrine: The scriptures are true


  • Make a no-sew felt superhero cape with a picture of the Book of Mormon taped on it

  • March around, holding up scriptures every time you sing “scripture power”

  • Take a binder of the printouts to church as a Sacrament Meeting quiet book

  • Review what you learned during the week and do any leftover activities

  • Share testimonies

  • Mail artwork to grandparents (or text/email them pictures from the week)
