Week plan for October 14–20
Philippians; Colossians
Young children
Memorize: "I can do all things through Christ." Philippians 4:13
Songs: Have your children each pick a song or two that makes them happy.
Sing a song together in bad form: slouching, frowning, quiet, and slurring words together. Then repeat the song with your best singing.
Play musical chairs or do a conga line around the house with the songs playing.
Monday
Doctrine: Church leaders love me and pray for me. Philippians 1:3–4; Colossians 1:3, 9
Scripture
Read Philippians 1:3–4 and Colossians 1:3, 9 aloud, with everyone folding their arms and bowing their heads on the words pray, praying, and prayer.

Activities
Pull these leader circles (Ctrl F "leaders") out of a hat one at a time and explain how each of them pray for your children.
Show a picture of Jesus Christ, and share examples of Him praying for someone (see Luke 22:32; 3 Nephi 19:21, 23).
Take aside each child individually into a private room and let your child listen as you pray for him or her.
Tuesday
Doctrine: I can rejoice in the Lord. Philippians 4:4, 8
Scripture
Read aloud Philippians 4:4 with a huge grin and as much animation as possible. Then ask what "rejoice" means.

Activities
Draw smiley faces on sticky notes and put them on a picture of Christ. Take turns grabbing smiley notes and sticking them on family members.
Do the Frowny Face Challenge.
Watch the Tabernacle Choir sing Rejoice, the Lord Is King. Point out the happiest faces. Singing our testimony of Jesus can make us feel happy.
Wednesday
Doctrine: I can rejoice in the Lord. Philippians 4:4, 8
Scripture
Read Philippians 4:8 and say that there is an Article of Faith that sounds a lot like it. Have your children try to guess which one while you read them in a random order.

Activities
Show and Tell things that make each of you happy. Finish with a picture of the Savior.
Read the story My Heart Is Happy.
Snap a picture of your children being super smiley and text it to someone special (or share on social media) with a caption about how you love the Lord.
Thursday

Scripture
Read: Paul's Missionary Journeys, The Friend

Show this poster and then help each child to draw their own poster of a hard thing they can accomplish through the Lord's strengthening power.
Print and string this Paul in Prison lacing card (Ctrl F "Paul").
Sing "Jesus Wants Me for a Sunbeam" and talk about how Jesus wants us to be happy and smiling.
Friday
Doctrine: My faith should be “rooted” in Jesus Christ. Colossians 1:23; 2:6–7

Activities
Go outside and have your children try to push over a large tree. Explain how roots keep the tree firmly in the ground.
Point out the roots in these two tree pictures (pg 4). Which one has stronger roots? Which tree would we be like if we are grounded and rooted in Christ?
Do this Acting as Trees activity (pg 5).
Saturday

Watch Spiritual Whirlwinds.
Create artistic renditions of Jesus Christ using each child's desired medium (e.g. a playdough statue, a watercolor painting, etc). Then share testimonies of Him.
Have your children circle each word they find in this picture of tree roots (Ctrl F "print rooted"). Read aloud the words as they are found.
