Young children








Memorize: "Comfort them which are in any trouble." 2 Corinthians 1:4


Song of the Week: Help Me, Dear Father (CS 99)

  • Have your children draw something that makes them mad and hold tight to the pictures while singing. Give them a candy only if they drop their pictures. (Idea from Emily Davis)

  • Clap each word. Once finished singing, ask what their favorite word was from the song.

  • Body rhythm (idea from Sharla Dance): *a pat is hitting the front of your legs with your palms

  • Practice calming strategies (can be made into a booklet) to help your children cope with anger so they can forgive.

  • Use emotion puppets to talk about how repenting and forgiving make everyone happier.

  • Tape each page of scenarios on a different wall. Run back and forth across the room to read the scenarios.

Scripture

  • Read 2 Cor. 2:7–8, 10, and invite your children to place their hands over their hearts every time they hear the words "forgive" and "forgave."

  • Make a feelings booklet to help your children explain their emotions during conflict.

  • Role-play stuffed animals apologizing, making it right, and forgiving. When an animal is mean, tape a dark dot to him; remove the dot when the animal repents.

  • Read the story Can't We Be Friends?

Doctrine: I believe in being honest. 2 Corinthians 4:1–2


Scripture

  • Memorize the phrase “We believe in being honest” (Articles of Faith 1:13).
